    The students needed for social work degree specifically declared competence in order to work with groups. The social workers play a crucial role in giving a light of hope in the lives of underprivileged children. Many social workers initially start working in support with families, organisations and regularly get engaged on this practice of group work via observation and various assignments. In this context, with the help of Tuckman’s theory the practice issues faced by the group have been discussed along with the importance of this project work in addressing the social issues. The field of this group work is social work on underprivileged children. The study contains completeness and coherency in framing the group work plan for the underprivileged children in offering them with a good life.

    The practice issue framed by the group to address

    In case of service users, the group containing young members especially the students will be appropriate as this group is energised with fresh mind full of potential to serve for the society and bring a smile in the lives of those underprivileged children (Chawla, 2016).

    The target group in related to the practice issues are the college students and they will be invited in the form of attending the campaign held in their college on social workers for underprivileged children. From this campaign to be organised in their college campus, the students will be attracted by seeing the present scenario of the nation where many children are deprived of their basic facilities.

    The invitation towards them will add a certificate for participation in this noble initiative. The aim of the group will be to bring a smile in the children’s face. Various issues can occur at the time of working in a group such as, ineffective communication, motivation costs, coordination costs, lack of discussion in a group, lack of contribution by all members and many more (Ng et al. 2014).

    These issues can be addressed by keeping group size small, frequent arrangement of group meetings, increasing individual accountability, active communication build, proper selection of venue, group encouragement, maintenance of periodic process reports, etc.

    Group work plan related to Tuckman’s Theory

    Based on Tuckman’s Theory, the group work plan in association with the college students for the development of underprivileged children has an effective existence within the theory of youth work along with practice which shows the excellence of the model for attempting in order to examine both group and individual behavior. As stated by Paula et al. (2016), the development of this group will enable the students to initially analyse the children and then measuring their present condition in order to meet their requirements for better daily life. The personal practice can enrich the knowledge of life of social workers in offering happiness to others and finding a pleasure in doing so.

    Importance of group work project in meeting services user needs and the usefulness of it in addressing the social issues

    The group work project with the involvement of college students can initiate in meeting the requirements of the underprivileged children of the society. As per Social Works and Human Rights 1998, the areas of their requirements and social issues that can be fulfilled by addressing are discussed below:

    Spread Awareness:  The role of group work project is to deliver the information to the government so that the poor people can get help for raising their children in a better manner (Mapp, 2014).

    Building opportunities for self-sufficiency: It is to make available opportunities for employment with an aim to increase income for accessing basic amenities.

    Free education: The role of social workers in regard to this is to bring forward the scheme of free education for the poor children from government to address this problem.

    Capital, Technology, Infrastructure: Improvement of human capital helps in economic growth in the form of eradiating health issues by involving more medical facilities to rural areas. Good infrastructure in the form of information networks and roads helps in reformation of market thus making the life of children better (Androff, 2015).

    Quota for poor children in private institute:  An underprivileged child can be encouraged with financial assistance. It is the duty of the social workers to ensure reservation for students belong to poor family background in private institutes.

    Task 2

    Completeness and coherency of the group work plan

    According to Lindsay & Orton (2014), the group work plan in order to develop the condition of underprivileged children has undergone completeness and coherency for attaining success in the effectively of the planning. The group work plan involves college students creating five groups engaging five members in each group with a group head who is professionally social worker. The small group will create will have not issues of communication or discussion. Each team will look after each area of the rural region. The young mind will be associating with design of programmes to run the objective of their project in bringing out facilities for the poor children. As a result, this engagement will help in eradicating the social issues from their lives because youth represent the country with creative mind, energetic strength and emotional heart (Payne, 2015).

    As asserted by Malekoff (2015), Tuckman’s theory imposes an impressive youth work theory for analysing individual as well as group behaviour. The group development stages in order to run the project based on this theory comprises five stages:

    Stage 1: Forming

    The first stage is concerned with relative testing, trial, error referred to as joining or engagement. In this stage, emotions and feelings are knowledgeable by the group members but initially lack of cohesion or sharing feelings shows difficulty.

    Stage 2: Storming

    In this stage, group members start to confront each other that help them in feeling valued. The potential towards oppressive behavior shows strength with the phase of storming to release frustrations (Hall, 2014).

    Stage 3: Norming

    At this stage, constructive work by the group members began to start towards informal tasks. The individual roles start to develop to work hard for assuring oppression against individuals within the group.

    Stage 4: Performing

    This stage reflects the effective work of the group with assigned roles transforming into a team. The unity develops in this stage within the group.

    Stage 5: Mourning

    Termination is the final stage of a group life, which results into positive outcomes. The ending f a group can be unhappy for some members (Raes et al. 2015).

    In regard to this above discussion of the group development stages, the group work project of this study involving with college students and social workers for the underprivileged children is at the third stage aimed as Norming Stage. The group members had already started their work towards their aim but in the process of working hard maintaining unity within the group.

    Degree of research

    The extent of research of the condition of underprivileged children shows that these children are deprived of basic amenities which include, inadequate food, lack of schooling, medical facilities, etc. In this case, the social workers forming a group project with the college students take the initiative to inform the condition to the government. This in turn will enable various schemes to come forward with the joining hands of youth with social workers such as, free education, spread awareness, building self sufficiency, quota for poor children in private schools and colleges, human capital, advance technology, god infrastructure, employment opportunities to the poor families (Harker, Mahar & Wilkes 2016).

    Development of argument

    The stage of group development this group work project plan is at this stage of norming. Though the group members have started to perform constructively, but not in a unity. Various acceptable and unacceptable behaviors occur within the group that makes the group norms fabricated. Sub-groups might begin to form during this stage to make the environment supportive once again and meeting the challenges sportily (Seck & Helton, 2014).

    As a result, the argumentative comment in the development of this stage includes the importance where the youth needs to work hard at this stage for assuring oppression against the members within the group. Therefore, individual suppression requires to be challenged and on challenging behavior emphasis and opinions are put and not on group members.

    Critical Reflection and implecation of social work practice

    I as a social worker personally think that the implications for social work practice in order to help underprivileged children can bring a ray of hope and a smile in their lives. This initiative of concerning towards them and report the present condition of such scenario to the government can definitely help their living standards. The new development schemes can help in eradication the social issue from their lives and can bring opportunities of family employment, free education, quota reservation, good infrastructure and modern technology utilisation.


    From the above study, it has been concluded that the social workers by forming a group project plan plays a vital role in bring the social issues of the underprivileged children to the society. This in turn creates initiative among the college students to take part in helping the children to lead a better life by transferring the issues to the government. As a result, this helps in the occurrence of new policy schemes for the children to lead a life with free and healthy basic amenities.
