Discrimination practice is the most malicious practice which can be predominantly noticed among the developed countries like the US, UK, and Australia. Among this discrimination, the racial, sex or gender, religious and disabled discrimination are mostly found. In spite of having a set of effective legislation these countries have not yet mitigated the discrimination issue from the society.
1. Immediate and long term concern of issue
Social work assessment framework states that the children who are excluded from others might be suffering from detachment and depression (Darwich, McClure & Hymel, 2016). The primary issue that needs to be addressed in the given case is Jason’s depression and the fact that he tried to commit suicide. This is because if these two problems go unnoticed, in the long run, the issue might excavate to bring in worse results. From the case study, it can be stated that Jason was negatively impacted by the cultural and sexual discrimination suffered by his friend. The fact that he was lying unconscious on the floor with an anti-depressant bottle itself suggests that he might be either suffering from depression or tried to commit suicide. In such circumstances, if Jason is left untreated, he might be prone to suicide and end up taking his life. Based on the social work assessment framework it has been observed that there can be some other immediate issues and the long-term concerns may occur considering the Jason case study (Tribe & Morrissey, 2015).
2. Implementation of social work knowledge
One of the main concerns related to this given issues can be related to the maltreatment of the children due to referral of the family regarding the gender issues. With a help of sufficient social work knowledge it would be helpful to understand the problem of Jason as it would involve gathering of relevant information with regards to his problems that he has been suffering and that which he had failed to communicate to his parents.
3. Strategies for interventions
At this stage, the intervention strategies of local authorities will be taken into consideration. In these circumstances, the local authority is responsible for initiating the enquiries. Through this enquiry procedure, the person can first realise the issues that are prevailing within the school premises and its impact on the children. This would also include the assessment of the children, Jason and Troy with regards to their individual problems. Based on this, the concerned authority can find out possible solutions as part of mitigating actions that needs to be taken to protect the child from depression and suicide. In order to execute this action the obligation of Part V s47 of Children Act, 1989 must be followed (Ramey, 2015).
In order to make an enquiry, the local body must assess the wrong happenings suffered by the child. The required procedures have been laid in the Working together to safeguard children act of 1999. Substantial research evidence must be provided by the local bodies regarding the issues. It must suggest the development and health of the children including the educational attainment.
4. Personal and professional values
Among a school, the most important aspect is the presence of ethical practice. According to Landstedt & Persson (2014), every educational place requires incorporating the strategy to set a policy and eradicate discrimination practice. In the current case, having a Confucian ethical background Jason focuses on his studies on arts. As opined by Darwich, McClure & Hymel (2016), in a school, the teaching staffs need to highlight the ethical practice and they need to provide motivation to the students. However, in the current case they have failed to do so and as a result, the students and other classmates have been portraying a discriminatory behaviour towards Jason and Troy. On the other hand, Mr. Martine is the only teacher who monitored the behaviour of Jason. On the contrary Bogfjellmo, Bex & Falkenberg (2014) argued that sexual discrimination is the rising issue that is present in Australia. Being marginalised and stigmatised from other students Jason started to spent more time Troy who has been suffering from somewhat similar issue of sexual discrimination. As stated by Roig et al. (2015), this is a personal ethical practice which is the right of any person irrespective of religion, ethnicity or language.
5. Evaluation of values and ethics of social work
As per the code of Australian Association of Social workers (AASW) 2010, the ethical practices are the integral responsibilities of the social workers. According to Odic et al. (2016), being a social worker, it is important to regulate social foundation by maintaining the policies and legislation properly in the concerned organisation. As for this reason, the Australian Human Rights Commission has incorporated Australian Human Rights Commission Act 1986 in order to monitor and mitigate the marginalisation and stigmatisation among the educational organisation. On the other hand, Congress (2017) stated that, the most significant social practice is to honour other’s religion, thought and interest. In case of both Troy and Jason, the other students have shown a negative attitude of being discriminatory. The sexual harassment and discriminatory practice can be noticed in case of Troy which is not expected in a multicultural education system.
However, Jason has found more support from Troy and started to hang out with him which makes him marginalised by the students. Thus, the level of depression of Jason has increased due to the dilemma of study and business and discrimination from fellow classmates. As opined by Bottiani, Bradshaw & Mendelson (2017), the teachers and educators are also trained to maintain the ethical practices. On the other hand, as per the Racial Discrimination Act 1975, the ethical discriminatory practices can be also mitigated.

6. Ethical dilemmas
The dilemma between education and business made Jason depressed and his performance dropped. In the current case, having a Confucian ethical background Jason focuses on his studies on arts. Failing in the subjects was already one of the reasons for his depression that further increased by the discriminatory attire of the students. As opined by Darwich, McClure & Hymel (2016), in a school, the teaching staffs need to highlight on the ethical practice and they need to provide motivation to the students. However, there are some ethical dilemmas that act as barrier to the conducting of social work. Critically Skiba & Losen (2016) argued that different social cultures require different kinds of ethical treatments. Thus, in case of Jason also the different ethical practices provide barriers to the social working. Along with this, his parents were conservative Confucian ethnicity which made Jason feel biased towards performing certain business. Along with this, the dilemma has arisen due to his different socio-economical background. As stated by Congress (2017), cultural background impacts a child’s growth and personality. In this case, Jason could not mix up with other students who are from liberal society and his family background made him aloof from the rest. Thus, his family background made him unique from the rest and has been the cause of his distress. Due to lack of ethical practices in the school the students have started to misjudge and marginalised Jason for being different.
As per the Children Act 1989, I have realized the need to assess the needs of every child and also the importance of communicating the same to their parents. I have personally observed that the differences in the bringing of the children due to the religion, family structure and the ethnic origin have more impact on a child's personality. In this case, it has been observed that the children who need special social care are the ones who are isolated or are subjected to abuse and discrimination. Based on this, I have done a brief survey on Janson. I had observed that he was suffering from the family bindings of business and that made him opt for suicide. The discrimination phenomenon in the general base has seriously impacted the personality of the Janson. The everyday reality of the children's lives has a specific impact on nourishing the child's mentality (Skiba & Losen, 2016).
After assessing the issues and its long-term impact on the child's behaviour there has been focus on providing the quality of opportunity to the children while treating the same among rest of the children's. Both the negative and positive influence of the child has been focused based on the interactions among the environmental factors and the family members. The child's difficulty has been assessed based on the laws.
Henceforth, it can be concluded that in spite of having a set of effective legislation these countries have not yet mitigated the discrimination issue from the society. However, having some ethical dilemmas between study and business, Jason was stressed out and had taken anti-depression drugs. Besides this, the government needs to incorporate more legal policies and legislation in order to mitigate the discriminatory practices in society and different organisations. Thus, his parents, educators, and friends need to cooperate with him in order to rescue him from stress and depression.
