Learning Outcomes Assessed

Submission Information 

This 3300 words portfolio (with   10% flexibility) should be submitted online via Turn-it-in on CO7601 Moodle page. The work should be submitted as a MS Word Doc or PDF (.pdf) and should be properly referenced using the APA referencing system. 

• The file should be named with your assessment (J number), e.g. J123456.pdf. 
• Files submitted in an incorrect format will usually be marked as zero. 
• All components must be submitted to avoid receiving a mark of zero. 
• Any late work penalties for assignments will be calculated using the latest submission date/time. 

Permissible word count excludes the student’s name, title of module and assignment, references to sources, bibliography, external code snippets, graphs, maps, diagrams, captions and appendices.    

Extensions and Plagiarism 

Extensions 

Extensions can only be granted by Dr Linda Rayner, Head of Department, at least 48 hours in advance of the deadline (by appointment through the Departmental Administrator), and written evidence will be required. Late work is penalised at the rate of 5% per day. 

Plagiarism 

The material you submit must be your own work.  The penalties for plagiarism are severe.  The minimum penalty is usually zero for that piece of work. Further information is available at  Portal >Support Departments >Academic Quality

This is a portfolio of six (6) exercises spread across the term for 6 weeks. These will be a combination of practical exercises with corresponding written report. All 6 exercises have equal weighting. This will cover all or most of the topics covered in the term.  

Deliverable: Students are expected to start each exercise in class with tutors’ support and then go on to complete tasks individually.  Students are encouraged to complete each exercise before the start of the next lecture.  Students will then submit a portfolio of all exercises.  The portfolio is to be formatted as one document, with one contents page at the start, a very brief introduction to the portfolio, and all references at the end of the document. 

Assessment Criteria 

70%+ will be awarded for: 

• Demonstrating in-depth knowledge of the skills tested 
• Coverage – attempting and getting most or all of the tasks correct 
• Showing excellent knowledge of the topic area 
• Excellent command, understanding, and usage of relevant tools 
• A very sophisticated critical reflection, self-evaluation and new insights informing practical situations. 
• 50-70% will be awarded for: 
• Demonstrating extensive knowledge of the skills tested  
• Coverage – attempting and getting most of the tasks correct 
• Showing good knowledge of the topic area 
• Sound command, understanding, and usage of relevant tools 
• A sound critical reflection, self-evaluation and some new insights informing practical situations 
• 40-50% will be awarded for: 
• Demonstrating some knowledge of the skills tested  
• Coverage – attempting and getting a good number of the tasks correct 
• Showing relevant knowledge of the topic area 
• Showing good command, understanding, and usage of relevant tools 
• A good critical reflection, self-evaluation and some insights informing practical situations 
• Answers that fall below the criteria above will receive a fail mark.
