Organizational change has become a compulsory feature owing to the current dynamic business environment. The management has to match its business operations to the current business advancements by transforming their systems, structures, and processes to provide efficiency, agility, innovation and ensure task fulfillment. However, for some organizations, attaining change is a central challenge due to the inability of leaders to exercise skills that match the current dynamic business environment.
The article seeks to evaluate the effects of the unpredictable changes in the business climate on the management around the world. The results of the conducted survey indicate that the current leaders are disoriented with the rapid shifts in the business environment. The study aimed at 38 CEOs around the world, the responses were recorded and analyzed to uncover themes and conclusion. These changes have resulted in instability of valid information, the non-linear interconnection of information sources, and the desire to figure out the sources of real differentiation. The rapid evolutions of work skills and knowledge as well as education and emerging talents for work is the reason for this changes that the article refers to as Supernova. The author argues that the current world is interdependent and holds extremely unpredictable changes as never before. Therefore the current leaders should adopt the changes, and the young leaders must equip themselves with the new leadership context ideas (Duke 2013 CEO study, 2016).
In the new leadership context predictability has decreased, the leader no longer fully rely on historical economic trends, rules, and authorities to make projections. CEOs suggest that the world is globally interdependent than ever before and challenges are less predictable, and knowledge is getting less reliable each day. Leaders face challenges in the following new context. Challenges have shifted from uni-dimensional to multi-dimensional, leadership authority is now based on influence and not control, targets have changed from first order to second order and lastly, changes have shifted from predictable to less foreseeable.
This article is relevant to current and upcoming business leaders. It prepares the reader to the effects of the dynamic business environment to leadership activities.
