Assessment Item 2 – Project Plan
Total Value - 55%
Word Count –3000 words (see template)
Task Rationale -
Assessment rationale: Being able to write and/or evaluate a project plan is an essential skill for many health professions – whether you are/will be working in research agencies, governments, NGOs or the private sector. This task provides an opportunity to work in groups and develop a project plan on a health topic and allows for skills taught and discussed within lectures and workshops to be applied to a real public health problem and solution.
The reflection component of this task is important as it provides you with an opportunity to reflect on processes and outcomes. Being able to express reflections in a structured way is an important skill of effective health project planning and continuous improvement practices.
Assessment task
Project Plan:
The global agency –
Addressing Health Issues for Sustained Change (AHISC), has announced a new US$1million dollar fund specifically targeting 5 health topic areas in LMICs. Each 2 year project has a maximum of US $200,000 allocation. The Agency has a particular interest in supporting projects which have health system strengthening benefits and utilise existing and innovative strategies to reduce the risk factors and/or health issues identified in the topic title. The Agency specifically requires projects to align with SDGs and recognises the importance of demonstrating strong program logic, requiring the inclusion of a logframe or Theory of Change model in the final funding application.
Project topics:
Improving breast feeding in the first six months in Nigeria
Using the project plan template provided (see attached with some detailed requirements of inclusions/considerations for each component), work in teams to develop the project plan (including a monitoring and evaluation component) choosing one topic from the 5 topics presented and submit a completed plan. PARTs A, B, C of the plan must be presented as a team (and each in the team will get the same mark), while PARTS D, E and F, G,H (and reflection) must be provided individually.
Please CAREFULLY examine the marking criteria to see how your plan will be assessed.
Reflection:
In addition to the completed plan, individuals are required to submit a reflection of the task (no word limit). Please complete your reflection by i) describing, and ii) reflecting on:
Your team work – describe how you formed your team including the questions you asked of each other, the key issues for forming the team, the processes for learning about each other’s strengths and weaknesses, the processes you used to allocate tasks to complete the first group component and communication mechanisms. Describe the things that worked and any issues that challenged the process.
Reflect on your own contribution and those of your team. What was your role ant was there an even balance of workload? Was it difficult to agree on team processes and ideas to include?
Completing the task – group and individual – describe the components of the plan development and proposal completion that you found most difficult and reflect on why. Did you find that the situation analysis (Assessment 1) was helpful? explain why/why not? What other resources did you find helpful in completing the task?
