You work in a Citizens Advice Bureau as an assistant were many clients come in to seek advice about their rights as consumers dealing with Travel and Tourism Businesses. You have been asked to prepare brief reports by your Line Manager which can help clients understand their rights in law in case they seek to bring cases. The reports are as specified below.
⦁ A report on the legal and regulatory framework of the English legal system. Such a report should explain the structure of law in the English Legal system, including the respective courts and the legal professionals as well as the sources of laws used to regulate the Travel and Tourism sector. (AC 1.1)
⦁ A report which discusses the role of the respective regulatory bodies in the Travel and Tourism sector. Such a report should pay attention to the legislation and International Conventions used to regulate the various means of transportation of persons going on holidays (Land, Air and Sea). (AC 1.2)
⦁M 1: To achieve this, you need to analyse the English Legal system with a view to addressing the different ways in which disputes could be resolved between consumers and Travel and Tourism Businesses and also show that an effective approach to study and research has taken place in addressing the respective regulatory bodies in the Travel and Tourism industry (Task 1 A and 1 B)
LO 2: Task 2
⦁ As a Legal and Compliance Officer of a Holiday Resort, write a report to Mr Smith, the Director in which you evaluate the impact of the health, safety and security legislation which he is expected to be aware of in running the Resort. (AC 2.1)
⦁ You are also requested to write a second report to Mr Smith, in which you analyse the Equality legislation in the English Legal System, which he should be aware of, when recruiting and managing employees of the Resort. (AC 2.2)
⦁ M 2: To achieve this, you need to show how the relevant theories and techniques or legal rules can be applied to deal with Health and Safety related issues (Task 2A)
⦁ M 3: To achieve this, you need to use the appropriate structure and approach in responding to Task 2A and 2B. There should be coherent and logical analysis of concepts relating equality laws in the Travel and Tourism sector.
⦁ D 1: To achieve this, you will have to arrive at conclusions using a combination of original ideas in addressing the above task (Task 2A and 2B).
LO 3: Task 3
At the Citizens Advice Bureau you have been asked to also write brief reports on the following
⦁ A report in which you explain the general features of the following legislation which implies terms in contracts between consumers and Travel and Tourism Businesses;
⦁ The Unfair Contract Terms Act 1977
⦁ Sale of Goods Act 1979
⦁ Supply of Goods and Services Act 1982
⦁ The Consumer Rights Act 2015 (AC 3.1)
⦁ A report in which you explain the consumer protection legislation relating to package holidays which Tour Operators should take into consideration to avoid civil or criminal liability, when organising such holidays for customers. (AC 3.2)
⦁ M 2: To achieve this, a variety of sources of information have to be used in addressing tasks 3A and 3B.
⦁ D2: You need to show that substantial research has been carried out in applying and coming up with novel ideas in addressing task 3A and 3B.
LO 4: Task 4
A large Business Corporation in the Travel and Tourism sector responsible for Building Holidays Resorts abroad has requested that you write a report, which deal with the issues stated below, to enable them run their business in an ethical manner. You are being asked to write a report in which you;
⦁ Identify and analyse instances of ethical dilemmas which the Holiday Resort Business could face and how to deal with those dilemmas.(AC 4.1)
⦁ Analyse the Corporate Social Responsibility of such a Business proposing what could be done in such destinations where they build such Holiday Resorts. (AC 4.2)
⦁ M 3: You need to show coherent communication of these rules for the intended audience in the Travel and Tourism sector. (Task 4A and 4B)
⦁ D 3: To achieve this, you need to show innovative and creative thinking in addressing the ethical dilemmas and how they could be dealt with (Task 4A and 4B).

⦁ All coursework must be word processed.
⦁ Document margins must not be more than 2.54 cm (1 inch) or less than 1.9cm (3/4 inch).
⦁ Font size must be within the range of 10 point to 14 point including the headings and body text (preferred font size is 11).
⦁ Standard and commonly used type face such as Arial should be used.
⦁ All figures, graphs and tables must be numbered.
⦁ Material taken from external sources must be properly refereed and cited within the text using Harvard standard
⦁ Do not use Wikipedia as a reference.
⦁ Word limit must be strictly followed.
Plagiarism and Collusion
Any act of plagiarism or collusion will be seriously dealt with according to the College regulations. In this context the definition and scope of plagiarism and collusion are presented below:
Plagiarism is presenting somebody else’s work as your own. It includes copying information directly from the Web or books without referencing the material; submitting joint coursework as an individual effort.
Collusion is copying another student’s coursework; stealing coursework from another student and submitting it as your own work.
Suspected plagiarism or collusion will be investigated and if found to have occurred will be dealt with according to the college procedure. (For details on Plagiarism & Collusion please see the student hand book)
⦁ Initial submission of coursework to the tutors is compulsory in each unit of the course.
⦁ Student must check their assignments on ICON VLE with plagiarism software Turnitin to make sure the similarity index for their assignment stays within the College approved level. A student can check the similarity index of their assignment three times in the Draft Assignment submission point located in the home page of the ICON VLE.
⦁ All Final coursework must be submitted to the Final submission point into the unit (not to the Tutor). A student would be allowed to submit only once and that is the final submission.
⦁ Any computer files generated such as program code (software), graphic files that form part of the coursework must be submitted as an attachment to the assignment with all documentation.
⦁ Any portfolio for a unit must be submitted as a hardcopy to examination office.
⦁ The student must attach a tutor’s comment in between the cover page and the answer in the case of Resubmission.
a. Make backup of your work in different media (hard disk, memory stick etc.) to avoid distress for loss or damage of your original copy.
Extension and Late Submission
⦁ If you need an extension for a valid reason, you must request one using an Exceptional Extenuating Circumstances (EEC) form available from the College examination office and ICON VLE. Please note that the lecturers do not have the authority to extend the coursework deadlines and therefore do not ask them to award a coursework extension. The completed form must be accompanied by evidence such as a medical certificate in the event of you being sick.
⦁ Late submission will be accepted and marked according to the college procedure. It is noted that late submission may not be graded for Merit and Distinction.
⦁ All Late coursework must be submitted to the Late submission point into the unit (not to the Tutor). A student would be allowed to submit only once and that is the final submission.
