Introduction

In this report, the discussion about two different social media platform instagram and LinkedIn is done. Instagram is a popular platform used by people for sharing their photos and videos with others. Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger created this application in year 2010. But after sometime, facebook purchased this platform for $1 billion. More than 600 million people use this platform for sharing their videos and photos. User just has to create an instagram account in order to share his photos with others. The age group between the 18 to 29 years is the most active group of users. People prefer to use this application as this can be easily navigated and used. The other platform that has been selected is LinkedIn. This is a career and employment oriented platform. It is mostly used by professional companies as well as people who are searching for jobs. This platform was founded in 2003 by Reid Hoffman, Allen Blue, Jean-Luc Vaillant, Eric Ly and Konstantin Guericke. More than 450 million people use this platform to hire employees or to search a job. User is required to create his LinkedIn profile and after creating a profile, he is allowed to look for the jobs. It is quite easy to use and navigate (Harvey, 2017).

Instagram

There are different characteristics of this platform such as it allows the user to create profile, customize the photo filters, provide privacy to users, interface is simple to use, and is compatible with other social networks also. The audiences targeted by this platform re mostly youngsters whose age is between 18 years and 29 years.  Type of content that is posted in this platform includes inspirational content, practical content, celebrity related posts, shopping related content, jokes and other types of content. The frequency on which people shares their photos and videos on instagram are quite high (Moreau, 2017). Approximately 95 million posts are shared daily on instagram.

LinkedIn

LinkedIn has several characteristics which makes it popular among people. These characteristics include tags, message personalization, news signals, recommendations and posting the updates. The majority of audiences targeted by LinkedIn include those who are looking for a job. The type of content which is posted on LinkedIn is mostly related with the businesses and job opportunities. More than 300 million users shares their content weekly on LinkedIn and the number of articles posted by users weekly on LinkedIn is also more than 100,000. (Nicasio, 2017)

Conclusion

 From this report, it can be concluded that how instagram and LinkedIn are different from each other. One is a photo-sharing application whereas the other provides job opportunities to users. One is for entertainment purpose whereas other is for employing the unemployed. The given report discusses about the characteristics of both instagram as well as LinkedIn. This report specifies the target audiences of the two platforms and provides information regarding the type of content which is posted on these platforms. The information about the methods of deception in both the platforms and etiquettes that should be followed while using these platforms has also been provided.
