The submission is in the form of two outputs (report and demonstration):
1. REPORT: Stage 1 – App description/specification code development and app evaluation, including fully commented core source code in a monospace font (i.e. the code you have written yourself, not auto-generated code)
2. REPORT: Stage 2 – IDE v no IDE evaluation
3. REPORT: Stage 3 – Debugging evaluation
4. REPORT: Stage 4 – Coding Standards used
5. A live demonstration of your application to your lecturer
Your report is required to make use of an appropriate technical report structure, including title page, contents, headings, paragraphs, subsections, screenshots and illustrations as appropriate. All work must be supported with research and referenced using the Harvard referencing system.
Unit Learning Outcomes
LO3 Implement basic algorithms in code using an IDE.
LO4 Determine the debugging process and explain the importance of a coding standard.
Assignment Brief and Guidance
The software development unit of the company you are currently working for BRISSLE(Soft) have a position available for a full-stack C# application developer, which you are interested in applying for. As part of the application process they want to see that you can implement algorithms using an IDE.
You have been asked to build an app using C#.NET and Visual Studio 2017 (or 2019) to create a quiz and revision app in Windows Forms. It is intended that the core C# code could then be implemented in other .NET platform formats in the future.
The following requirements must be met:
1.At least 10 multiple choice questions for computing students (Level 3)
2.At least one suitable question selection algorithm implemented
3.Range of questions with multiple answers (from 2 to 5 max)
4.Running total of score
5.Final score displayed
6.Revision pages for two topics which relate to the questions
7.User interfaces should be provided for
8.Solution should include appropriate validation to prevent run-time errors and reduce the likelihood of erroneous
Your aim is to create a reliable (fully debugged and tested) application using the required IDE and conforming to suitable coding standards.
The report should include:
1. A description and evaluation of the app to be created and the specifications required, plus algorithms used
2.Evidence of how the IDE was used to manage the development of your code.
3. An evaluation of developing the quiz app using an IDE versus developing it without using an IDE (i.e. just a notepad program and a C# compiler).
4.An evaluation of the debugging process in Visual Studio 2017 and how it helped with development.
5.Describe coding standards and the benefits to organisations of using them. Explain the standard you have used. Evaluate why a coding standard is necessary for an app development team.

Learning Outcomes and Assessment Criteria
LO3 Implement basic algorithms in code using an IDE
P3 Write a program that implements an algorithm using an IDE.
M3 Use the IDE to manage the development process of the program.
D3 Evaluate the use of an IDE for development of applications contrasted with not using an IDE.
LO4 Determine the debugging process and explain the importance of a coding standard
P4 Explain the debugging process and explain the debugging facilities available in the IDE.
P5 Outline the coding standard you have used in your code.
M4 Evaluate how the debugging process can be used to help develop more secure, robust applications.
D4 Critically evaluate why a coding standard is necessary in a team as well as for the individual.
