Anyone can be a victim of nausea and morning sickness. Many times people go through nausea but could not find it that they are now a victim of it, and take it very lightly.

What is actually NAUSEA and MORNING SICKNESS? Whatever they might be one thing is clear these are not diseases, these are symptoms of illness.

What is morning sickness and nausea?

Nausea is nothing but an urge or sensation to puke or we can define nausea a stomach ailment. There are numerous reasons one can find behind this urge. Morning sickness can be the first symptoms or sign of pregnancy. Nausea/vomiting of pregnancy (NVP) is another name for Morning sickness. Data says 80% of females during their pregnancies feel this.

Nausea or morning sickness is a sudden urge to vomit. Any individual dealing with the unfavorable condition is prone to nausea. It happens mainly due to an imbalance in the hormones. Apart from vomiting, it causes tiredness, fatigue, and a low feeling, which makes you unable to perform your daily activities. Therefore, it severely affects the quality of life of a person. Morning sickness can be short-lived or chronic. It can occur due to Physical as well as psychological reasons. Such problems in the upper gastrointestinal tract, as well as problems in the brain both, are capable of causing nausea. It is a very unpleasant disease for a person. Morning sickness can happen to anyone at any time of the day. There are several assumptions made about the causes of morning sickness but the exact cause is not known yet. There are many natural therapies and home remedies, which help to reduce the symptoms.

Risk factors and causes of nausea

Nausea is a kind of stomach discomfort and this sensation can occur due to various reasons but none of it is sure. People who have a weaker immune system and are very sensitive to certain particular food, medications or have an allergy to the certain environment can very easily become nauseous. Pregnant women are more vulnerable to morning sickness. 70 to 80% of pregnant women are affected by morning sickness.

Among them, 60% of women suffer from vomiting. Mild to moderate nausea in the mother has no effect on the baby. Estrogen levels increase during the pregnancy severely. Additionally, there is an expansion in progesterone level. A rise in these hormones can cause nausea in pregnancy. Also during pregnancy, Placenta drains the energy from the Mother's body and decreases the blood sugar. It can be a cause for retching. Pregnancy also increases the sensitivity to smell developing nausea to unwanted odor.

Severe symptoms of nausea

     ·   Excessively dehydration

     ·   Dizziness and head Rush on standing up

     ·   Feeling of faintness

     ·  Vomiting blood

There are various types of medications available for a particular disease. They may not suit all the patients very well. Treatment for severe diseases can affect the stomach of a patient. Some medicines contribute to the upsetting of the stomach and then cause nausea. The patient must read the ingredients of the medications carefully before taking it.

The patient must inform the doctor about all the other ongoing medications so there is no after effect and reaction in the stomach.


Oily foods and fatty foods are not suitable for the heavy stomach. A large percentage of people witness upset stomach due to unhealthy food. This causes discomfort in the stomach and then leads to nausea and morning sickness.

Gastroesophageal Reflux disease (Heartburn)

This disease creates a burning feeling in your stomach and chest. Sometimes the food we eat is not well digested and it finds its way back up through the esophagus. The undigested food comes to apply the esophagus and then creates the burning sensation, which relatively leads to nausea.


Seasickness is very common among the people who travel through the waterways. Many people are not comfortable with this wavy ride and develop the urge to vomit. It is very psychological as the bumpy ride of vehicle transmits messages to the brain not to co-operate with the senses. This leads to dizziness, vomiting, and nausea. It popularly occurs in the waterways like ships and boats but it can occur to any other vehicle whose ride is not suitable for the passenger.

Bacterial or viral infections

Roadside food is not always safe to eat. Food exposed to the open air is prone to bacterial attack. Such bacteria- infected food is not healthy and causes infections in the stomach. Viruses can also cause these infections and it can lead to vomiting and nausea.


Pain is also proved to cause morning sickness. Diseases like kidney stones, extreme headache, migraines, pancreatitis, etc. main create a drastic pain with causes the person to feel nauseous. Therefore, painful conditions are also counted as a cause of nausea.


Ulcers in the stomach or the intestine lining can also cause nausea. It creates a burning sensation when food enters the stomach and then leads to nausea.


Morning sickness can be treated in the home itself if it is not very serious. There are a few cures that can lighten the manifestations.

Rest-it is very common for nauseous people to feel tired during the day. This tiredness and restlessness increase nausea. Therefore, it is essential to get plenty of rest to minimize the symptoms.

Morning- mornings can be tiresome for nauseous people. Having a tiny meal or breakfast early in the morning gives some relief from nausea.


It is observed that consuming frequent meals with fewer proportions helps in decreasing nausea symptoms.

It is always better to have dry foods such as crackers or wafers than very sweet or extremely spicy food. In addition, it is better to prefer cold means that the hot ones. The food we eat plays a vital role in causing vomiting.


Fluid is believed to provide energy to the body. Therefore, it should be taken at regular intervals in small amount rather than drinking it all at once. It helps to reduce the vomiting sensation.

Home Remedies for nausea and morning sickness

At one point or another people generally, experience nausea or morning sickness. Reasons for this can vary from pregnancy to acid reflux to cancer treatment or any other. Home remedies are available to pacify at the moment of need. Sometimes home remedies can even cure the stem of nausea and morning sickness. Here are some home remedies which can give immediate relief and can be helpful to the extent.

1.     Acupuncture /Acupressure

During acupuncture long thin needles are inserted into the body, they can stimulate nerves to release hormones, which can further help in achieving easiness during nausea. This is a proven remedy that one could get instantly. Not only inserting needles but also pressurizing accurate point on the body can be fruitful. Complementary therapies in Medicines which were published in June 2015 also states that acupressure to the wrist notably reduces nausea. Here are a few things which you can attempt:

  1. KID 6 point – This is one thumb width beneath the distending bone on your foot.
  2. KID 27 point - Feel your collarbone. Utilize your thumb to see the gloom amidst your breastbone. Two thumbs width to either side of that, just beneath the collarbone is the point to apply the pressure.
  3. PC 6 point - See at your inward wrist. Measure three finger widths from the hand up your wrist. This is the point to apply the pressure. This point is also targeted at sea bands.


2.     Ginger root

This is found in everyone's kitchen, this root is a cure for various pain and digestive issues. Gingerol, an active compound that is found in ginger stimulated the central nervous system and affects digestive system directly. This is an instant cure, used from ages to provide relief from nausea or morning sickness. This can be taken in form of ginger tea or other.

3.     Peppermint

Peppermints are very beneficial and wonderful for speedy relief.  Whether its peppermint oil or peppermint leaves both can be used for remedy. Peppermint intake helps your stomach muscles to relax and to make food movement fast for digestion purpose. Peppermint is highly recommended for is the numbing and calm effect.  One can mix the liquid with water and can take or oral capsules can be used for intake.  Even the aroma of it can ease nausea and morning sickness.

4.     Lemon

Lemon water is included in the detox diet. Nausea or morning sickness can be because of constipation, Fresh lime juice or any other fruit with citric acid in it can assist nausea or morning sickness. Before intake of citric acid fruits as a remedy for your nausea, do know the reason behind nausea or morning sickness. Even citrusy smell is helpful at the time of nausea

5.     Cold compressor

Cold compressors are nothing but ice packs in your refrigerators. To get relief from nausea symptom, ice packs in your refrigerator are boon. Rubbing ice packs on the back or neck part of your body can give much comfort and calmness. Compressors depend on the reason for nausea. If we are talking about ice than ingestion or  crushed ice or ice-cold water can also help in easing nausea or morning sickness

6.     Specific diet

For the peoples who are not friendly with all type of food, specific diet i.e BRAT diet is recommended which includes Banana, Rice, Applesauce, and Toast.  This diet is a precaution to be safe from nausea.

7.     Essential oils

Essential oil plays a vital role in our body, their intake can give a sudden response and make us feel better in the situation of nausea or morning sickness. Essential oils which are recommended are cardamom essential oil, ginger essential oil, grapefruit essential oil, peppermint essential oil, patchouli essential oil, sweet orange essential oil, spearmint essential oil/ isopropyl alcohol and more.

Essential oils are used in Aromatherapy, aroma of these oils are inhaled, which stimulates our hormones. The smell of these essential oils is helpful in providing relief from stress and anxiety which ultimately can be a reason for nausea.

8.     Anything sour

In nausea and morning sickness, taste is something that can smooth the symptom, anything or something sour can be useful at the time of such nausea feeling.

9.     Vitamin B6 supplement

Oral intake of Vitamin B6 or pyridoxine can successfully reduce nausea during pregnancy.  A minimal amount of  200 mg can be taken per day for avoiding nausea and morning sickness. Also apart from pills, you can have foods rich in vitamin B6, such as avocado, bananas, and chicken.

10.  Fennel seeds

These seeds can be chewed, funnel seeds help in diminishing nausea. You can also keep the fennel seeds beside your bed the smell of these seeds are beneficial for getting relief.

11.  Elixir 

Blend 1 Tbs. of crude apple juice vinegar in 1 quart of water; include the juice of 2 lemons and 1 Tbs. of crude nectar, and blend. Have this drink whole day. Toward the beginning, today ailment solution is exceptionally alkalizing and awesome for lightening an acrid stomach.
