 b.What devices are used?

c.What are the power outputs this technology generates?

d.What are the advantages and disadvantages? Any issues?

e.What are the current technologies associated with your topic?

f.What are the recent advances in technology?

page detailing the Assessment number and title, group members with ID numbers, and

the lecturer’s name. The next page should be an originality statement with group

members’ signatures. The following sections should also follow: Table of contents, Title

page with abstract, Body of paper, Conclusions, References. Make clear sections that are

easy to follow. You can use the questions above as your section headings. After

references, detail the contributions of each member to the presentation and report.

figures and tables. You can use Harvard style referencing.

Note:

As a team member, you are expected to contribute and complete team assignments on

time and to behave professionally in the group. Working in a group will experience many

challenges but as an effective team member, it is essential for you to prevent and

resolve the issues among yourselves in a respectful manner through open

communication.

Report: Individual

Submission: Written report should be submitted on UTSOnline in MSWord format

only(not PDF)

Due date: June 8, 2018, 23:59

Scenario and scope of work

There is an increasing demand for Australia and the rest of the world to move towards a

low carbon economy, which necessitates changes in the generation and use of energy. In

this context, a key component in developing a low carbon economy is the use of more

sustainable energy.

You are hired by the government as an energy consultant. The Australian government is

contemplating on a strategy to become a sustainable energy country. Your role is to

suggest what combinations of energy resources should we utilize and other efficiency

strategies that could lessen the carbon footprint towards a sustainable energy country.

Your report should not be limited only on the research you have done in current

literature but should also include original intellectual contributions and critique of the

information in the literature. There will be a project communication (video) part of this

report that will develop your skills in using multimedia effectively to communicate your

energy portfolio plan.

Two components of this task: written report (85%) and video presentation (15%)

Written Report format (85%)

1. Background – Give an overview of the current energy generation/use/distribution in

Australia. Discuss the different sources of energy, and their use and briefly compare it

with the world use. (15 marks)

2. What combination of energy sources/strategies is needed for a sustainable energy

future for Australia (make a sound justification)? (50 marks)

How do those compare to the current energy portfolio?

Identify the advantages and disadvantages of the chosen options with respect to

performance/technology, environmental, economic and societal aspects. You can refer to

the book “Australian Sustainable Energy- by the numbers” on some strategies but do not

copy. You can update book author’s suggestions including new advances in technologies

and energy policies (provide specific examples). Justify your choices.

3. Is it possible for Australia to have a zero carbon economy? Is going 100% renewable

energy the answer? Justify your thoughts with references. (25 marks)

4. Reflection and conclusion – Discuss what you have learned about sustainable energy

and what you can contribute to achieve energy security (or what your role is for a

sustainable energy future). Make a conclusion. (10 marks)

The report should be between 15 to 20 pages with page numbers, 1.5 spaced with 1-

inch margins, either 11 Times New Roman or 11 Calibri. The report should have a cover

page detailing the Assessment number and title, student name and ID, and the

lecturer’s name. The next page should be an originality statement with student

signature. The following sections should also follow: Table of contents, Title page with

abstract, Body of paper, Conclusions, References. Make clear sections that are easy to

follow. Make separate headings for the sections above. The quality of content, analysis

and own thoughts of the paper is more important than the quantity. Make sure that you

cite your references properly (preferably using Endnote) including figures and tables.

You can use Harvard style referencing or any other reference format as long it is

consistent.

Written report marks will be based on:

Correctness and relevance of content (50%)

Depth and analysis of discussion, quality of report (formatting, structure, clarity) (50%)

Portfolio video (15%)

This sub-part of Task 3 will involve creating a multimedia presentation related to your
energy portfolio report. The multimedia presentation is limited to 5 minutes. As there is
already a written report, the video should focus on adding different aspects of the report. The videos
that worked best were those that focused on presenting the integrated understandings about the
project rather than just reporting technical and information dense aspects of the project. So you do
need to ensure that the written and video reports compliment not try to duplicate each other.

When making the video, make sure you show your face in the beginning part, and then you can continue to record your voice over. Make sure to make some contents in the video and not only yourself talking. Video content could be a combination of ppt files, videos, and other multimedia files and made into one video. Make sure to avoid plagiarism.

Submission of video (link should be provided)

The video should be uploaded to the student’s UTS Youtube account. The URL link of the

Youtube video should be provided the Table of Contents page (highlighted) of the written

report.

Assessment Criteria for video

Appropriateness of content for video delivery, audience and purpose (50%)

Clarity and fluency of content delivery (50%)
