1. Explanation of the working structure related to the performance of the entire organisation

 

Every MNC can be found following specific contemporary structure for managing the overall operations of the organisation. The respective contemporary design or structure has been made on the basis of work culture of the organisation. As per the statements of Smith, Jaggar & Love (2016), it can be said that there are four different types of contemporary structure of organisation, which are known as team structure, structure of matrix-project, structure of organisational learning, and the boundary less structure. In accordance with the working culture of Australian MNC Coles, it has been found that the organisation has been following the team structure as a contemporary design (coles.com.au, 2018). Team structure reflects on the system of multiple teams or individual team of the respective organisation. To execute the performance of one or more than one teams of an organisation in a successful manner, team structure has been considered as integral part of the operating organisation. However, the success of teamwork in an organisation depends on proper designing of the team involving the key people, who have been made responsible for the overall performance of the team. From the words of Zingg et al. (2015), it can be said that the success of team structure based on the outcomes of leadership, mutual support, situation monitoring and effective communication. It has been found that the performance of the respective team(s) can be improved with the help of appropriate team structure. It may need to ensure whether all the members of the respective team have been committing to perform their role in an effective manner or not.

Commitment from the members of the concerned team in the contemporary team structure has been found crucial to the success of the organisation. In accordance with the comments provided by Broom et al. (2016), it can be said that recognising as well as identifying the design along with the responsibilities of the team members is important for the organisation. This is because without clear definition of a team it will become impossible to develop success in the performance of the concerned organisation. An improper designing of a team will affect the goodwill as well as the financial position of the respective organisation in an adverse manner. To understand the team structure the organisation will face the requirement of introducing different strategies as well as tools. However, it can be found various challenges in implementation of the team structure in order to introduce the adopted strategies along with tools. It can be said that in the absence of a proper team Coles will be unable to perform their best in providing services to their customers in the Australian market.

However, it has been known that determining the proper team for considering in the structure of team is critical somewhere for the respective organisation. This is because in the case of performance of multiple teams it is difficult to identify the key people to allocate the key responsibilities for the management team of Coles. As per the statements of Smith et al. (2017), it can be said that an organisational team has been considered as group of people with different skill sets to achieve the shared goals of the respective organisation. It has been found that Coles is an Australian supermarket, which has been providing services to a huge base of customers in different areas. Therefore, Coles has the requirement of involving multiple teams to gain success in its entire performance in providing accurate services to the customers. With the help of the contributions of every individual in the respective teams, the team structure, as well as the organisation, will get success in its operations. In accordance with the words of Friesen et al. (2015), it can be said that the mission of the teams is to achieve greater value for the respective organisation rather than individual goals of the members of the concerned team due to the temporary life of the team. In enhancing the skills of the considered team Coles has decided over selecting the members of the respective team by taking into account the following concepts:

1. To involve the leaders along with the individuals, have been made able to take action in fulfilling the requirements of different customers.

2. Determining the responsibilities as well as roles clearly with respect to the concerned department of providing services to the customers.

3. Accountability of the team respective of the actions taken by the members of the team.

4. Maintaining consistency in the system of communication for the accountability of the actions of the respective team members.

Basically, Coles have been found to involve three types of people in the team. These include the individuals interact in adaptive, interdependent, and dynamic manner. They interact in the aforementioned manner to achieve the collective goals or the goals with higher value for the respective organisation. As per the statements of Lee et al. (2014), it has been known that an organisation usually chose the team structure as the contemporary structure for the concerned organisation. This is because team structure helps an organisation to maintain the transparency in the system of communication. This literally enhances the quality of performance of the members of the defined team. This also helps the management team of the respective organisation in implementing the strategies as well as tools of improved team performance in an effective manner. Coles has adopted strategy such as Single-use Plastic Bag Removal, and various tools such as online shopping, financial services of Coles, using the application of Coles to make the shopping easy, quality checking of the products provided to the customers, and many more. These are the fields of Coles that has the requirements of properly designed team structure with higher level of quality.

2. Advantages of the chosen structure with respect to the organisational performance

 

It can be found that an organisation generally use to adopt the concept of team structure as the contemporary structure for the operating the functions of the concerned organisation. This is because this contemporary structure of organisation helps the respective organisation to keep consistency and transparency in the system of communication during the actions taken by them. This literally helps to improve the quality of performance of the members involved in the determined team. This also helps the management team of the respective organisation at the time of implementation the strategies as well as tools of improved team performance in an effective manner. With the help of adopting team structure, Coles has become able to generate the short-term values of higher level. This has increased the profitability of the respective organisation. Team structure has been found to be helpful for the organisation as this has increased the performance of the individually specifically. In accordance with the statements of Boer et al. (2017), it can be said that team structure are helpful for the organisation to cut off the time frame for a particular task to be completed in a successful manner.

Considering different types of people in building the team with respect to the team structure the management team of the respective organisation has become able to complete the target goals in an effective manner. This is because every member related to the team can review the overall performance of the team as per the requirement. From the comments provided by Samson & Gloet (2014), it can be said that the team structure has been positively impacting the operations of the organisation.

Apart from this, if there have been multiple teams appointed for a similar task the final outcomes of the performance can be improved constantly. This also has been found helpful for the management team of the respective organisation in appraising the performance of the entire team with respect to the closest outcomes to the target objectives (Tuttas, 2015). Team structure has been seen helping Coles to enhance its communication system towards the resources as well as the customers. According to the words of Robertson, Back & Bartlett (2016), it can be said that the better the communication system is, the market impression of the respective organisation will enhance in the same proportion. It has been seen that the organisations with the traditional structure proceed the decision-making action including only the top management of the organisation. However, as per the statements of Lodhia (2015), it can be said that the organisational structure that has been made on the basis of team structure made their decisions at all the management level of the respective organisation. With the help of team structure in the organisational culture of Coles, it has been seen that Coles has been aiming at involving all the resources of each level to participate in the process of decision-making as well as taking action decisions on their own. This has created the attitude of belongingness among all the team members as well as the resources of each department. In accordance with the words of Carey, McLoughlin & Crammond (2015), it has been found that with the help of implementing team structure as the organisational contemporary structure the concerned organisation has been able to gain a competitive advantage in the global market. This is because team structure has been known as the most effective as well as efficient to identify the competency skills for the organisational performance. As per the statements of Duffield & Whitty (2015), it has been known that the resources involved in the team structure have been able to enhance their individual effectiveness as well as competencies towards the collective goals for the organisation.
