1. Introduction

 

Strategic management in a healthcare organisation is necessary in order to promote quality service, an increase of patient outcome and growth of healthcare organisation, in order to achieve these goals a person of a healthcare organisation needs to increase their own performance by improving their own skills and motivation to the work. This helps to achieve a person to deliver a quality of service which is very much essential in case of a healthcare centre. The strategic self and organisational management also involve the risk management skills in an organisation which increases the reputation of the concerned person and the healthcare organisation. In the UK, the government has also put an emphasis on the risk management protocol in healthcare organisation for both patients and employees. As for this reason, various acts have been incorporated by the UK government. Thus, in the current assignment, a systematic study has been conducted and a evaluation of strategic management in healthcare centre has also performed.

LO1: Determination of own performances and responsibilities

Q1: Developing performance objectives and responsibilities in terms of line manager [P1.1, M1]

In terms of line manager, it has been seen that the manager needs to develop a complete set of objectives and responsibilities that are required for effective productivity enhancement. In this respect, I think that functional and organisational development and goals set will be the main responsibility of the line manager. As per my understanding, and effective communication along with risk assessment ability can be strengthen the performance of a line manager. Additionally the manager can handle the work with the support of technology instead of manual handling in order to promote better health and safety in the company. However, as the manager is in charge of the business active teamwork dynamics where all the platform of idea generation by the service assistants will provide innovative ideas. I think that close monitoring of the working operations remains the foremost duty of the line manager.

Q2: Evaluation of own effectiveness against the objectives of performances [P1.2, D1]

 

I have noticed that the goal and achievement of mission and vision are the objectives of performance for a healthcare employee. As opined by Alfes et al. (2013), this strategy helps to improve both the performances of the organisation and a person. Thus, I have found that there are three strategies which determine the performance objectives in a systematic way in case of UnitedHealth Group Company. As stated by Altuntaş et al. (2013), the most significant performance objective is the identification of own skills. In case of UnitedHealth Group Company, I can state that the choice of the post "line manager" refers to the increase of responsibilities and management abilities. A healthcare worker requires a set of basic skills which are quite different from employees from other sectors. Thus, I have highlighted on the responsibility of the employee in order to conduct a job as a healthcare worker has to manage both the responsibility of the organisation and the patients. On the other hand, in case of a line manager, they can develop strategic management to increase self-capability and enhance their performances. However, I have noticed that the self-capability can be also developed by effective training (nhs.uk, 2017).

Q3: Recommendation for weakness identified in self-performances [P1.3]

 

I have noticed that being a line manager various responsibility and motivation to give a quality of service is high. In order to enhance the performance of employees the management needs to provide appraisal according to their performance. Along with this, as per my understanding, in the beginning the management can supervise the work and train the employees in order to conduct the works. Thus, this difficulty is denoting the lack of practice for me. In this situation, I recommend that the line manager needs to focus on the effective time management and training to the employees. According to Cascio (2018), in order to achieve skills and knowledge to enhance the performance of the company, a person is to be provided with proper training. Ginter (2018) supported and commented that a proper training smooth the proficiency in the work as in case of a healthcare organisation, there are least chances to develop proficiency while performing the work. Thus, as for this reason, I should recommend that a person must develop their basic knowledge and skills before starting their career in a healthcare sector. Thus, in case of UnitedHealth Group Company, I can reconstruct the role of management to provide training to the old and new employees. Additionally, I can suggest that the management can monitor their work and provide appraisal according to their performances. On the other hand, I must recommend the retention of knowledgeable employees in order to maintain the quality of products and services. I also recommend providing more time in the initial apprentice stage for new employees in order to give them an opportunity to manage their own time.

Q4: Implementation of a motivational strategy of management for improving performances [P1.4]

 

In case of a line manager, while performing the task at the initial stage motivation is necessary. As opined by Haimes (2015), in any employment the employer needs to provide effective motivation to their employees in order to achieve a sustainable development in the performance and knowledge of employees. As per the Behavioural Theory, Mark needs to act according to the environmental stipule that is the urgency and importance of the sling hanging work. On the other hand, as per the Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, the safety need is the second most important needs for the people which must be prioritise accordingly.
